Peppertones' Instrument (Part 2) | Jaepyung's guitars

This is the 2nd part on Peppertones' instruments! Part 1 on Jangwon's basses is here.

//

Let me preface this by saying, Shin Jaepyung has alot of guitars. A LOT. You can see how many there are in this episode of Hyena on the Keyboard.

I have a feeling he might have more guitars not shown here, or he might have sold some of the guitars along the way. (Because if you see the list below, it seems like the numbers may not quite match up.)

Additionally, instead of ordering the guitars in this list by the year he first got it or played it, which was how I organised the post I did for Jangwon's basses, I will list Jaepyung's guitars by type and colours. Somehow I just keep finding more and more guitars and/or videos in which these guitars have been used in performances, and it's just more meaningful to organise it this way then by when he first performed with it because I will probably be wrong on that count.

While making this list, I somehow keep finding more and more guitars. I suspect I'll still miss some out when I publish this, so do let me know if there's some I missed out. I have been trying to refine this post for too long, and it still isn't done, so I'm just going to go ahead and publish it as it is first, and update along the way.

Okay, enough rambling, on to Jaepyung's many many guitars~

[ ACOUSTIC GUITARS ]

- Jaepyung's acoustic guitar

Like I prefaced, Jaepyung has too many guitars for me to differentiate. This guitar seems to appear in the earlier days, like Park Trip MV (2009). But this isn't the same acoustic guitar you'll see later. For one, the body is a full "8" shape, unlike the ones later, where there are "cut outs" to let you play above the 12th fret more comfortably. I also don't think it's the 12-string guitar because I don't see that many frets in the (admittedly low-resolution) photo.

- Jaepyung's other acoustic guitar

This guitar appears in this performance of "Ready, Get Set, Go!". You can see that there are shiny metal things on the frets at the neck of the guitar. The body of the guitar has a ridge as well, where the middle is higher (you can see the shadow in the 2nd photo above).

- Jaepyung's acoustic guitar with glitter rim

Appears on this 2017 performance at Yoo Heeyeol's sketchbook. I recall seeing it more than once but can't find the other sources now. It doesn't have the metal parts on the neck near the frets like the earlier one.

- Jaepyung's green acoustic guitar

Yamaha

I've only seen this green acoustic guitar in this 2008 video from Grand Mint Festival.

- Jaepyung's 12-string acoustic guitar

12 string Yamaha

This guitar was seen in 2009 with the photos for their 3rd album "Sounds Good!". I think it's the same guitar that appeared in the "New Hippie Generation" music video in 2008 as well, even though the video quality is too low to be certain. Jaepyung is the one in orange, and you can sort of tell that there are a lot more than 6 tuning pegs on his guitar.

[ ELECTRIC GUITARS ]

[[ Reds ]]

- Jaepyung's red guitar

Fender

This red fender has been around since at least 2009 (hence the low resolution screenshot above,  taken from this video). The clearer photo used above was from this 2016 performance of 신도시 (New City).

- Jaepyung's dark red guitar

Gibson

This guitar is a very dark red that appears almost black. Seen in 2012 at a Nylon photoshoot, and in the MV for "Good Morning Sandwich Man" (2014). I don't think I've seen it much, to be honest.

[[ Yellow ]]

- Jaepyung's beige/white guitar

This guitar appears in some of their 2018 performances (e.g. on Music Bank and All That Music), and this 2017 fan video also shows it quite clearly. It looks ALOT like the next one in this list, and I kept thinking they were the same, but they're not. The lighter beige/white guitar is a Fender, while the yellow/white guitar is a Moollon. I was only certain that they were 2 different guitars when I saw both of them appear together in this video (click the 3rd video of the instagram post). You can see both guitars in the background:

The model (Fender American Professional Telecaster) was mentioned in this post/interview thing Jaepyung did, although the colour of the panel in the centre has a different colour than the product on Fender's website. I think it might just be an older version of the same model.

- Jaepyung's yellow/white guitar

Moollon

Like I said, I was confused about this guitar and the previous one, because they are similar enough in colour that I assumed they were the same guitar but under different lighting. As a result I got very confused as to whether this was a Fender or Moolloon, but the photo above from hurshey00 confirms that it's a Moollon, and not a Fender.

- Jaepyung's yellow/black guitar

Moollon

This yellow/black guitar appeared in the album photos from Beginner's Luck, some 2012 performances (e.g. on All That Music and at the Beautiful Concert). It was also in the "Thank You" MV (2013)

- Jaepyung's gold guitar

Fender

I've only seen this gold (?) guitar once in this 2011 performance of "Ready, Get Set, Go!". The shape is different from the rest, with sharp ends on the body, so it's not any of the earlier yellow or beige guitars.

- Jaepyung's yellow guitar

Fender

Found another yellow guitar from this 2018 performance on EBSspace. It has, again, a different shape of the body, and there seems to be some rectangle shapes on the white parts of the guitar as well. All I'm realising from this post is that he has alot of yellow guitars lol.

[[ Blue ]]

-Jaepyung's light blue guitar

Fender

This blue fender appears quite often in recent (2019 ish) performances. It can be seen in the MV for "Good Morning Sandwich Man" (2014), and appears in other performances, such as this 2017 appearance on Yoo Heeyeol's Sketchbook.

[[ Black ]]

- Jaepyung's black/red guitar

Fender

Appears in "A song that runs like Light" MV (2012), and various performances (fan video 1fan video 2).

- Jaepyung's black guitar

Appears in the "Ready, Get Set, Go!" MV and a 2006 performance of "Ready, Get Set, Go!". Haven't seen it elsewhere.

[[ Others ]]

- Jaepyung's wooden electric guitar

You can see it in this 2018 performance. He performs with this quite often in recent years, and it seems to be often used as a substitute for his acoustic guitars. He used it in the acoustic segment of the 2019 concert "Circle" as well.

//

Like I said, that's all I have for now. I've been trying to compile this list for a year now and it's still a mess... Jaepyung really has too many guitars. Anyway, let me know if I missed out any! I just want to get this post published. There are currently 16 guitars in this list (4 Jan 2020), and I got lazy with trying to identify the make/model of the instruments the way I did with Jangwon's basses. Maybe I'll update it one day after more checking, or I may not, because there are just too many. If you know the make/model, feel free to let me know and I'll update this post.

With that, I hope you enjoyed this very long post of Shin Jaepyung's many guitars~

Happy 2020 as well~
